Abstract: Genji Monogatari translated by Feng Zikai (1898-1975) was published between 1980 and 1983, which exerted a deep influence in China. However, in academic circles of China and Japan, what references Feng Zikai employed in translating Genji Monogatari remains to be settled. Making footnotes of Feng Zikai’s translation of Genji Monogatari and the translation characteristics of its Hikiuta as the breakthrough point, this paper contends that apart from three modern Japanese versions mentioned in his translation afterword, Feng Zikai made reference to TeihonGenji Monogatarisinkai by Kaneko Motoomi, Hikiuta of Genji Monogatari by Tamagami Takuya and other monographs in translating Genji Monogatari.
Key words: Genji Monogatari, Feng Zikai, Chinese translation, modern Japanese version, reference
