Abstract: As the forerunner of the Japanese female diary literature,The Gossamer Years adopts the first person narrative perspective with the same story. The real author in the historical context as well as his writing and narration way,and “my”activities reflected in the novel are the same narrative subject in different levels.Although The Gossamer Years uses the first person retrospecting narration style,it mainly adopts the “instant narrative” style based on the limited narrative perspective when the narrative subject experiences the story. And by integrating plenty of interior monologue and exquisite psychological description, the novel reveals vivid presence and reality.Meanwhile, there are interpretation or remark given by the narrator and the “experienced self” occasionally when narrating the story, thus, the narrator and the “experienced self” forms double focus. From separation to overlap,it makes the first person narrator, the image of “I”,wellrounded.

Key words: The Gossamer Years, first-person narration, experienced self, narrating self
