The Trade Effect of Japanese Official Development Assistance to the Four Countries of the Indochina Peninsula——An Empirical Analysis Based on Gravity Model

Abstract

Abstract: Based on the panel data of Japan's official development assistance (ODA) and bilateral trade with the four countries of the Indochina Peninsula (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) from 1971 to 2014, this paper empirically analyzes Japan's linkage relationship between ODA development assistance and bilateral trade growth in the four countries of the Indochina Peninsula and discusses the trade effects of Japan's official development assistance to the Indochina Peninsula. The results show that Japan's ODA development assistance to the four countries of the Indochina Peninsula has a significant positive relationship with bilateral trade flows, and its foreign aid does have a positive trade facilitation effect.
