Abstract: The old Japanese manuscripts of Buddhist scriptures mainly refer to those of the Nara, Ping an and Kamakura periods, that is, the Buddhist scriptures written or transcribed in Japan before the publication of the Dazang Sutra. At present, the modern editing and database construction of the old Japanese manuscripts of Buddhist scriptures is mainly carried out under the auspices of the Research Institute for the old Japanese manuscripts of Buddhist Scriptures of International College for Postgraduate Buddhist Studies. Since 2006, nine volumes of Bibliotheca Codicologica Nipponica, edited by International College for Postgraduate Buddhist Studies, have been officially published. The excellent editing and proofreading of Bibliotheca Codicologica Nipponica is an important academic material for the study of the text characteristics, circulation, and religious function of the Japanese ancient writing sutra. The successful practice of the series’ editing and publishing is due to its editing strategy, that is, the implementation of a systematic and comprehensive editing policy, the editorial tendency of emphasizing academic research, and the editorial consciousness of integrating digital resources. This paper combs the publishing situation of the Bibliotheca Codicologica Nipponica and discusses its editing strategies. This work can provide new ideas for the collation and publication of ancient books in the new era, and contribute to the excavation, return, dissemination, and research of old Japanese manuscripts of Buddhist scriptures which is a valuable overseas Chinese literature.
