Abstract: The movie Rashomon, which is based on the works In a Grove and Rashomon by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, received international awards and caused controversy among European and Japanese reviewers, grabbing the interest of academics all over the world. The phrase “Rashomon effect”, which is derived from the movie Rashomon, has gained recognition across many academic fields, including anthropology, sociology, and philosophy, etc. As its influence has spread, the term has appeared even in everyday topics. Its entire evolutionary process is a reflection of the encounters, acceptance, and integration among different cultures and civilizations. In addition to describing the dynamic process in detail, this paper analyzes its underlying cultural implications and how it happens.
