Abstract: In the Period of Meiji, Japanese education experienced the collision and integration process of diverse educational concepts from Europeanism, traditionalism to nationalism.The issue of Imperial Rescript on Education in 1890 is considered as the symbol of the establishment of Japanese educational core concept“faith and filial piety”. The transitional process of educational thoughts is also a reflection of the development of the domestic thoughts in politics. This article shows detailed analysis of the educational concepts in different phases in the Period of Meiji and the educational system under different educational concepts. By the indepth study, this article not only presents the integration process of Japanese various ideological and cultural collisions between tradition and modernity, the east and west during the transforming period from a traditional country to a modern country, but also introduces the influences of the combination of different ideology and political power on Japanese modern development.
